The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has attended the maiden Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) at the Ocean Green Beach Villas in Prampram.
The meeting focused on the election of new executive members and a review of the Association’s financial report for the first and second quarters of both last year and this year.
In her remarks, Hon. Emelia Arthur commended the leadership of GITA for their commitment and resilience in sustaining Ghana’s fisheries industry. She highlighted the vital role the Association plays in supporting the country’s food supply chain and creating employment opportunities.
The Minister further noted that the newly passed fisheries law provides a strong legal framework to enhance the work of GITA. She, however, raised concerns over the persistence of illegal activities such as transshipment and called on GITA to support government efforts in curbing the menace.
She emphasized that GITA is well-positioned to promote compliance with fisheries regulations and encourage responsible fishing practices.
