Fisheries Minister Welcomes New Enforcement Chief, Reaffirms Commitment to Ocean Protection

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has officially welcomed Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye as the new Coordinator of the National Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU), pledging strong support for enhanced enforcement of Ghana’s fisheries laws.

Commodore Anokye takes over from Commodore Francis Nyarko and will lead efforts to strengthen surveillance and compliance across Ghana’s coastal waters.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, Hon. Arthur congratulated the new FEU head and underscored the importance of closer collaboration between the Ministry and the Ghana Navy. She noted that improved joint operations will be key to protecting marine ecosystems, combating illegal fishing, and promoting sustainable fisheries management.

The Minister also took a moment to honour the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former Minister of Defence, whose forward-looking plans continue to shape the sector’s growth.
“His legacy will endure,” Hon. Arthur said. “We are committed to realizing the goals we shaped together. His passing will not be in vain.”

With fresh leadership at the FEU and renewed resolve from the Ministry, Ghana’s fisheries sector is poised for significant gains in safeguarding ocean resources and supporting the livelihoods of millions who depend on them.
