Accra – The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has expressed strong interest in forging a research partnership with the University of Udine in Italy to advance Ghana’s aquaculture sector.

This followed a courtesy call by Mr. Bartolome Owono Owono from the University’s Department of Agriculture to the Minister’s office. Discussions centered on fostering collaboration in aquaculture research and exploring innovative strategies to strengthen the sector.
Hon. Arthur welcomed the initiative, describing it as a vital opportunity to harness academic expertise for sustainable fisheries development. She urged her team to work closely with Mr. Owono, providing all relevant data and sectoral insights to help identify the most impactful areas for cooperation.“The Ministry is committed to driving innovation and sustainability in aquaculture. Partnering with institutions like the University of Udine will not only expand our research capacity but also support the long-term growth of the industry,” she stated.

The proposed collaboration is expected to focus on enhancing production efficiency, promoting environmentally responsible practices, and empowering local fish farmers through knowledge transfer and technology adoption.
This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to boost fish production, reduce imports, and strengthen livelihoods within Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture value chain.
