COOPERATIVE COUNCIL PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO FISHERIES MINISTER, SEEKS PARTNERSHIP

The Cooperative Council has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, on 26 October 2026, to discuss potential areas of collaboration and formally invite her to serve as the keynote speaker at its upcoming International Co-operatives Day Celebration.

The delegation, led by COP Dr. Samuel Otu-Nyarko, Board Chairman of the Cooperative Council, highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration with the Ministry to support the growth and development of Ghana’s fisheries sector.

The Council expressed its interest in partnering with the Ministry on fisheries-related programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable fisheries management, strengthening governance, and creating opportunities for stakeholders within the sector.

As part of the visit, the delegation formally invited Hon. Emelia Arthur to deliver the keynote address at the International Co-operatives Day Celebration, scheduled for Friday, 13 November 2026, at the GNAT Hall in Accra.

The celebration will be held under the theme, “Building Bridges: Co-operatives’ Contribution to a Peaceful World,” highlighting the role of cooperatives in fostering collaboration, promoting inclusive development, and contributing to peaceful and resilient communities.

The proposed partnership presents an opportunity for the Cooperative Council and the Ministry to explore practical ways of leveraging the cooperative model to support fisheries development and strengthen the livelihoods of people who depend on the sector.
