The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has led a delegation from the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture on a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and members of the Ga Traditional Council ahead of the 2026 Homowo Festival.

As part of the visit, the Ministry presented assorted items to support the annual celebration, one of the most significant cultural festivals of the Ga people.

Hon. Emelia Arthur expressed her sincere appreciation to the Ga Mantse and the Ga Traditional Council for the warm reception accorded her and the Ministry’s delegation. She extended her best wishes to the Ga Traditional Council and the entire Ga community for a peaceful, successful, and dignified Homowo Festival.

The Minister also used the occasion to appeal to the Ga Mantse to support the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, which continues to pose a serious threat to Ghana’s fisheries resources and the livelihoods of coastal fishing communities.

She expressed confidence in the Ga Mantse’s leadership and influence and called on traditional authorities to play an active role in promoting responsible fishing practices and safeguarding the nation’s marine resources for future generations.

Responding on behalf of the Ga Mantse, the Palace Spokesperson assured the Minister of the Ga Traditional Council’s commitment to supporting efforts to curb illegal fishing activities. He pledged the Council’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Ministry to help address the challenge effectively and without delay.

The spokesperson also expressed gratitude to Hon. Emelia Arthur and the Ministry’s delegation for the thoughtful donation and their continued support for the Homowo Festival.

The visit underscores the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with traditional authorities in advancing sustainable fisheries management while celebrating and preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
