The presentation ceremony was led by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, at the Ministry in Accra, in the presence of Directors and senior officials of the Ministry.
As part of the support package, the Minister formally assigned three vehicles to the FEU to enhance enforcement operations across Ghana’s inland and marine fisheries sectors. The vehicles included one white King Long Kingo Minivan and two Toyota Hilux pickup trucks in black and ash-grey colours.
The vehicles were officially received by Commodore Faustina Anokye Boakye, Coordinator of the Fisheries Enforcement Unit, on behalf of the Unit.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Emelia Arthur emphasized the importance of strengthening enforcement efforts at a time when illegal fishing practices continue to threaten the sustainability of Ghana’s fisheries resources and the livelihoods of fishing communities.
She noted that the provision of the vehicles forms part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to improving monitoring, surveillance, and compliance within the fisheries sector.
The Minister charged the FEU personnel to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their duties, stressing that they should not be intimidated in carrying out enforcement operations aimed at protecting the country’s marine and inland water resources.
Hon. Emelia Arthur further reiterated Government’s commitment to promoting sustainable fisheries management and ensuring that all actors within the sector operate within the laws and regulations governing fisheries activities in Ghana.
The FEU Unit plays a critical role in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities through regular monitoring, inspections, and enforcement operations along Ghana’s coastal and inland fishing communities.
