The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, joined the Women in Aviation and the Ladies Club of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) for a special event to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme “Give to Gain.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the power of giving and mentorship in shaping opportunities for women. She noted that every milestone achieved in society today is the result of someone offering their time, knowledge, encouragement, or opportunity to others.
Hon. Arthur emphasized that empowering women has far-reaching benefits, including improved household incomes, stronger food security, and more resilient communities. She added that the Ministry continues to support women in the fisheries sector by expanding access to improved fish processing technologies to enhance safety, dignity, and livelihoods.
Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, said the programme was designed to educate women on financial management and health, while also encouraging young girls to pursue careers in aviation.

Board Chairperson of Access Bank, Ama S. Bawuah, urged women to build strong financial literacy skills such as budgeting, saving, investing, and risk management to secure their financial future and create generational wealth.
Health experts at the event also educated participants on women’s health. Family Physician and Diabetes Specialist Diana Afeng-Nkansah stressed the need to prevent conditions such as hypertension and diabetes through healthy lifestyles, including proper nutrition and regular physical activity.

The event concluded with a call for women to prioritize their health, financial wellbeing, and personal development to ensure long-term wellbeing and security.
