The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has inaugurated a Ministerial Committee to spearhead the development of an academic curriculum and governance structure for the Fisheries College in Anomabo. The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday, August 29, 2025, in Accra.
The Fisheries College project, which had stalled in previous years due to financial challenges and contractor constraints, has received renewed government commitment under the leadership of His Excellency President John Mahama. The President has prioritized completing critical infrastructure to ensure the operationalization of the College, with the first batch of students expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Phase I of the project comprises a two-storey classroom block, a two-storey administration block, a laboratory block, hostel facilities, and residential accommodation for staff. Construction works are reported to be progressing steadily.
The newly inaugurated Committee has been tasked with developing an academic curriculum that responds to the practical needs of Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, while also aligning with international best practices. The curriculum will meet the standards of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, who also chairs the Committee, expressed confidence in the team’s capacity to deliver.
“The collective expertise and dedication of each member will ensure the development of a curriculum that equips our future workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to transform the fisheries and aquaculture sector,” she said.
