Stakeholders Review and Validate Draft Ghana Blue Economy Commission Bill

Representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, alongside members of the Intersectoral Technical Committee, convened at the La Villa Boutique Hotel in Accra to review and validate the draft Ghana Blue Economy Commission Bill.

The meeting brought together representatives from key sectors involved in Ghana’s blue economy to assess the revised draft and provide their final inputs towards strengthening the proposed legislation.

Fred Antwi Boadu, Coordinator of the Blue Economy Secretariat, in his opening remarks, said the Intersectoral Technical Committee had carefully considered submissions received from public institutions, academia and individuals, leading to adjustments to the draft Bill.

He noted that the current engagement provides an opportunity for participants to scrutinise the revised document and make further recommendations before the committee submits its final position.

Mr Antwi Boadu further explained that the outcome would inform the next stages of the process, including consideration by Cabinet, review by the Attorney-General and subsequent parliamentary consideration.

In a solidarity message, the North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, stressed that stakeholders had a responsibility to put forward their best ideas to help safeguard the country’s constitutional order and address challenges affecting Ghanaians across the country.

Participants contributed candidly to the deliberations, with their views expected to help shape a framework that brings the various sectors together, closes institutional gaps and provides a more coordinated approach to the management and development of Ghana’s blue economy.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s continued efforts to strengthen coordination across sectors and create a stronger foundation for sustainable economic opportunities and livelihoods through the blue economy.
