NAFF Leadership Pays Courtesy Call on Fisheries Minister, Pledges Closer Collaboration

The newly elected executives of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) have paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, to introduce their leadership and discuss opportunities for enhanced collaboration.

Led by its new President, Mr. Mike Tetteh Kwetey, the GNAFF delegation expressed their commitment to playing an active role in the Ministry’s programmes and decision-making processes. Mr. Kwetey also raised concerns about challenges with the distribution of Premix Fuel at landing beaches, which he said were creating tension within some fishing communities.

Hon. Emelia Arthur welcomed the delegation and congratulated the new executives on their election. She lauded GNAFF’s proactive engagement and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a strong working relationship with the Association and other key stakeholders.

Touching on the Premix Fuel concerns, the Minister stressed the need for strict adherence to the laws governing the establishment and operation of Landing Beach Committees. She emphasized that transparency, accountability, and inclusivity were critical to resolving disputes and improving the overall management of the fisheries sector.

Hon. Arthur also encouraged the Association to integrate themselves into ongoing Ministry activities and collaborate closely with other fisheries organizations. “It is only through collective effort that we can sustainably grow our fisheries and aquaculture sector,” she noted.

The meeting marked a renewed commitment to collaboration between the Ministry and GNAFF to advance the welfare of farmers and fisherfolk across the country.
