The Director General of the Korea Maritime Institute has paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Hon. Emelia Arthur, to strengthen bilateral ties between South Korea and Ghana, particularly in the fisheries sector.
The meeting centered on the ongoing post-harvest fisheries project, a collaboration between the Korea Maritime Institute, the Fisheries Commission, and the Ministry.

The initiative aims to enhance the post-harvest sector, with the Tema Fisheries Harbor as its primary focus area.
During discussions, the Director General acknowledged the vital support provided by the Fisheries Commission in implementing the project. He emphasized that the Korea Maritime Institute, as a public research organization, is committed to improving Ghana’s fisheries infrastructure. Currently, the project prioritizes the renovation and construction of modern fish-smoking facilities in Tema, with plans to extend similar interventions to other regions in the future.

Hon. Emelia Arthur welcomed the initiative, expressing her enthusiasm for the project’s long-term benefits. She highlighted the importance of tracking its progress and commended the proposal to expand beyond Tema. Additionally, she urged the Institute to lend its expertise in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to establish a Blue Economy Commission, which would further strengthen Ghana’s sustainable marine resource management.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between Ghana and South Korea in enhancing the fisheries and aquaculture sector, with both parties committed to long-term development and innovation.
