Hon. Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Ghana Tuna Association (GTA) following a crucial meeting with its executives. Discussions focused on key challenges, including aging vessels, high levy charges, and regulatory data inaccuracies.
With the sector employing over 6,500 people, the GTA raised concerns about the increasing cost of operations and the need for a review of the licensing regime. They also announced plans to install Electronic Monitoring Systems on all vessels between April and May to enhance surveillance and compliance.
Hon. Emelia Arthur assured the association of the Ministry’s support, emphasizing capacity building and a stronger collaboration to drive industry growth and sustainability.
